First time driving one since the engine/battery/motor upgrade. It was phoenominal.
Was it muscle car fast? No. Did it have sports car handling? No. Does it get a bajillion MPG? No. But it was still more than well versed in all the above fields, and would make a helluva DD. If I can get my transfer and I get the raise that comes with it, I very well may invest in one!

Have you considered the Fiesta ST?

Can't use the HOV lane with the Fiesta. And I'd get the same mileage as the Si. No reason to trade in for one of those.

I have. But half the reason for the CRZ is to be able to use the HOV lane for my commute. My Si is faster and gets the same mpg as the ST.

I've driven one.
It's okay. If I ignore the price, I like it a bunch and would consider buying one. But when I look at the price, meh. It doesn't really stand out in any way.
Power? Meh, it's not bad but the Sonic turbo gets more, the Abarth gets more, and the Fiesta ST gets a lot more.
MPG? It should shine here, and it's certainly not bad, but it's not that much better than the competition.
Utility? No backseat ruins the car IMO. Once again Sonic, Fiesta, and Abarth are all better.
All in all it's not really a bad car, it's just not competitive for the price unless you really want a Honda. I think if the MSRPs were $2,000 less it'd be appealing, but at it's price point it gets a big whopping 'meh'

What qualifies a car for use in an HOV lane?

I mean it's faster and gets better mileage than those cars. I dunno why the EPA doesn't reflect it but most average high 30s, and the 0-60 is under 8 now.

Those are a thing? Hm.
Now I'm conflicted.
The ST is probably so much more fun though...

It's on par with the other cars on speed, all are under 8s to 60. It does win on mileage.
I'm not saying it's a bad choice, it's just 'meh' to me at the price. I could take it or leave it. If I was looking for a 3 door hatch-like car in the sub $25,000 range, I'd probably go for the Fiat 500 Abarth over the CRZ.

Not really. From a handling standpoint, te CRZ handled a lot like my Si. It was impressive.

That is the top competitor for me. But that HOV lane privilege is very appealing to me. Gives me the ability to skip a lot of traffic in the morning.

Only has two seats …. still FWD.
Its something that is impractical when it should be practical.

I love how people say the CR-Z sucks because it isn't fast enough. I had an '87 CRX, and the CR-Z is pretty close to it in spirit. Decent handling, good mpg, not that quick, still fun. Except you might not be killed instantly if you get t-boned in a CR-Z.

Uh... Even without back seats, it's still got a huge rear hatch area.

People wanted a 6 second 0-60 and 50mpg. I don't really know any car that's capable of that except MAYBE high end plugins. I think if people could be realistic about what it is, they'd see the value.

They probably should have attempted an Si version with a little turbo or something, but I'm fine with the CR-Z as it is. I'm just guessing, but I have a feeling the Si versions of the CRX were not the ones they sold the most of.

Actually it woulda cost minimal to make an Si version. Just replace the first gen L15 (valve deactivation VTEC, first gen Fit) with the second gen L15 (high cam VTEC, second gen Fit) and tune it up to like 130hp. That would give it 145-150hp after adding the battery. Lighten it up a bit more and you'd have a badass DD/auto-x machine.
